Otto B. Bright

Otto... Here are the instructions for building the Apiarium... please, please follow them carefully this time.

I provided you with 55 bee nests, I need them constructed into an Apiarium. Start by placing the beehives in a circle with a diameter of 7. You should only use 15 of the nests to do this. Then make the bottom ring 2 high so you have used 30 nests. Add a Jungle door in the front as well.

To complete the structure continue to build up making a hive shape by reducing each ring size by 1. 2nd tier should be 2 high. Use 20 nests and add 4 glass blocks to add in some windows.

3rd tier should be 1 high using 4 nests and jungle slabs to fill in.

Then place one nest on the very top. Add extra jungle slabs around the structure for stability.

Then build a glass dome around the entire hive with enough space to plant flowers, so the bees won't escape.

IMPORTANT:
-use a slik touch axe to pick up hives if needed
-ALWAYS make the bee nests face the outside of the building... this prevents stings when harvesting from the inside.
-plant a few flowers so the bees can make honey.
-stock the Apiarium with a crafting table, chests, apiarist suit and supplies.

The art of Beekeeping
The way to Bee

The art of Beekeeping can be a simple but a rewarding process. This guide explains the behavior of bees and how to harvest.

HARVESTING

Bees are simple creatures but will defend their homes. It is very important to sooth their anger by placing a campfire below their hive to calm their demenor and thus collect without bothersome stings.

Alternatively a machine can be constructed using observers and redstone to automatically harvest honey or comb when the bees are in a closed enviornment. They are not angered by this process.

Thirdly... bees will only enter hives from one direction where their entrance is located. So by carefully constructing a structure so you have access to the back of the hives is ideal.

Structures may include a glass box where hives are on the bottom level facing in where bees can go in and out and attend to flowers inside. Collect the honey by walking around and using bottles or shears on the nests.

Another structure layout is to construct a hive or dome out of nests or hives no higher than you can reach.

The nests should be facing outwards so you can collect the honey from the inside wihtout being harmed. It is probably a good idea to contain the structure in a glass dome so they don't harm your neighboors when you are working inside.

LOCATING

Bee nests natrually spawn on Oak or Birch trees. You can also make a simple farm by placing sapplings every 5 blocks in a grid and spamming the ground with flowers. As long as you are in a Meadow, Plains, Swamp, or forest, you can use bonemeal to grow the trees and . You will have a .2% to 5% chance of a nest appearing with the growth of a tree. The highest percentage is in Mangrove Swamps. They must be harvested with a silk touch axe.

BREEDING

Bees may be bread by feeding them flowers. It is easy to increase your population this way, especially since bees have a tendancy to wander off and loose sight of their homes.
